A Door

Topic: SecretLove

It started with a door.
An ordinary door, at an ordinary bar,
In front of which I happened to be standing.
Sure, I could have chose somewhere else on the stoop to stand,
But its not like I knew this was where Id be landing-
When the door swung open and hit my back side.

Our eyes met. An apology. A smile.
A simple exchange.
And for weeks, I saw you there, but didnt even know your name.
But you never failed to warn me about opening doors, so I didnt get hit again like that night.
And you never failed to flash that smile that left more-
to be desired as you walked out of sight...

Then finally, it happened,
More than just a few passing words.
And the euphoria engulfed me,
As you engaged me,
In a conversation- about her...
Jealousy, rivalry, misery, she/'/s my family.
But calm down, be cool, introduce them, hang out with door guy.
And even though I knew it was wrong, I still hoped to catch your eye.

The three of us were friends, but no not really. I was an access point. A means to an end.
Your connection to her. Your direction was her. Your affection, for her.
Youd made your selection. I was facing rejection, and like an infection, I was counting my imperfections!

And then you saw me.
Wed talk every day, mostly about her.
But when you were mad, glad, or sad, you talked to me. You told me.
You said you liked talking to me that I-
was easier to talk to and I-
didnt play games and didnt have shame and didnt disrespect you.

I hadnt had the heart to tell you-
but I was telling you then,
I wanted you, you wanted her, and she wanted..... heroin.
So her presence faded out, leaving us in her haste.
And before long, I got to know just how your lips taste.
To hold your hand, run my fingers through your hair, and touch your face.

I got to learn your likes and dislikes, your quirks, what makes you tick.
I liked everything about you, right down to the size of your... heart.
A heart so big, full of tenderness for the elderly, a love for animals, and concern for children. And I found myself hoping I was there, in your heart, with them.

You showed me new places, I started to like new things. Who knew I liked sushi? Or cared about horse racing?
You introduced me to new music. And one "Sunday Morning" "God shuffled his feet" and "piece by piece" I saw you were a "Beautiful Disaster", and I thought to myself "Here I Stand Before Me" "Here comes the Boom" I feel so "Alive"...

Nights out turned into days out. Days out turned into weekends out. Before long, there were road trips.
We shared everything, from the dark to the light. The good stuff, the dumb stuff, the hardships.
I saw the best of you and I saw the worst of you, and I wanted more.
And I found myself wondering, what if I had never gotten hit by that door?

I owed that door a debt of gratitude, as silly as it sounds. Sure, without it, Id have been fine. Id have never known what Id be missing, by leaps and bounds.
I may not have seen a homeless guy take a crap in new York. Or watched a Jewish man throw his baby in the dark. I wouldnt have been embarrassed at a comedy club, or lost fingers in a window leaving me with nubs!
I wouldnt know passion. Or the bitter taste of Jealousy, when in the presence of the cunning smile of the girl who doesn/'/t like me.

I wouldnt know you. You, who brightened the darkest of my days.
When life was not living, but merely existing, and you showed me the way.
Lifting your torch high in the night, Id follow you anywhere, Id fight the fight-
to keep you forever, to have you be mine. Ill do what it takes, Ill cross that line.

So, when one door closes, another surely opens. And if youre perfectly positioned, it will hit your behind.
But if you jump at the chance, to see what youll find, at that moment in time, I know you wont mind-
A door to the butt, a shot through the heart,
a swinging door romance, a wonderful start.

That door lead me to you. Im so glad you walked through. Because now I can say that Im in love with you....

A splendid description of a love story that meanders just enough to keep the reader following to see where it is going to lead! Like a scenic route, you keep offering sights and scenes too good to miss..and before we know it...it is sadly, over.
A bit of everything here to please any taste and touch every heart.
Well done, well planned, and well said!

As Soft said, but I especially like the /'/wrapped in a bow/'/ finishing line.

Good job.
