Simple Joys

Contributed by softerware on Wednesday, 23rd March 2016 @ 11:19:23 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

He comes home each day, a little more gray;
Wearing the scars life has made;
Loosens his tie; gives me a sigh;
Lamenting the price he has paid.

The bad and the good, his ought and his shoulds;
He mumbles while hanging his coat.
Kicks off his shoes; turns on the news;
wielding his trusty remote!

He checks for the mail, the bills without fail;
Attest to his aches and his pains;
And though he will pick it; no lottery ticket;
Will gift him with more than it gained.

Home’s where men cope; renewing their hopes;
Shed their frustration and sorrow;
Let down their guard, and turn the next card;
To do it all over tomorrow.

The epilog closes with doggies wet noses;
Plop in their favorite chair;
“How was your day”, he takes time to say;
Too weary my answer to hear.

Let evening erase the jungle he faced;
The lion’s returned to his lair;
No feeling exists more peaceful than this:
To know he’s asleep in his chair.

Love is more trust than passion or lust;
It’s a place you plant wishes and hope in;
Where it’s ok to fall; to heed no one’s call;
And to sleep with your heart’s door wide open.

This? This is a perfect poem. Seriously, perfect, indeed. What more can I add to that? Only a huge thank you for sharing your life with us minions and bringing a simple pleasure to YPDC.

// Thank you //.

Tim

That last stanza is fantastic :)
The joys of such a thing as this poem, to realize how all the small things are just as important as the large ones- as they should be, for they/'/re what the largest rest on; and on which they rest. :D

We all dream of the break out moment in poetry. If you think it/'/s golden, often it isn/'/t. That is the sad reality for most of us. This wasn/'/t a break out moment for you either. You broke out long ago and this is just another of your glorious writes.

I can/'/t even imagine the thought processes of your mind to step into the shoes of a man. This was so spot on and so well written to me it defies explanation. I am now searching my house for hidden cameras and thanks to you I fired that little poetic voice in my head as his material is tired and old and not up to snuff.

An amazing poem on so many levels that I don/'/t even have the words to describe to you why it was so magical. Shame on me. Sometimes I don/'/t even feel worthy enough to read these golden gems of brilliance.

I remain humbled by your craft.

James
