As she sits quietly within her darkening room
Upon her lap, she holds her most precious box
The one she keeps hidden under her socks

With a shaking hand, she does lovingly caress
The lid that`s covered with cloth from a favorite dress
Within lies the sum total of the life she has led
The keepsakes that keep her failing memory fed

There`s hair cut from her first born baby boy
Her daughter`s drawing that still brings her joy
A corsage her one true love pinned that day
They talked and danced the whole night away

A cameo that once graced her mother`s chest
Even as it`s tarnished, the memory`s one of her best
A picture of the family she raised with great pride
Though now they have little time to spend by her side

She wonders if each prize lying on the worn red velvet
Will remain alive to her long after the lid is shut
She struggles to burn each memory deep in her head
Before time leaves her with blank pages instead

Sighing, she closes her eyes and smiles as she rocks
Soon it`ll be time to hide her box underneath her socks
Dawn begins its frothy song as her mind grows tired
Yet within her heart, her keepsakes are firmly mired [comments] => 3 [counter] => 198 [topic] => 48 [informant] => dvtpdw [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

My mom suffered from senile dementia so relating to this is not strange to me.

So beautifully sad.

I call Alzheimer/'/s Satan/'/s blessing. :(

Thank you for posting.
