Array ( [sid] => 182628 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => a day in the life [time] => 2016-02-19 20:03:29 [hometext] => writing this //'//poem//'// was originally just a facebook post that i couldn//'//t help the rhyming. poetry demands its birth, sometimes. it//'//s a departure from my usual imagery. [bodytext] => a day in the life
---------------------

definitely need to take it easy today,
not try to handle my life in the usual way.
i slept like hell,
seems i slept better in jail.
woke up and almost started the day with a roar,
but then mom called and that helped me breathe a little more.
after that i got right back on the phone,
called up my sponsor cuz i//'//m not in this alone.
he told me what i needed to hear,
told me to use my active-listening ear,
for while i am open and honest with it...
i should really sit back and just listen a bit.
so instead of going out and being stupidly high,
today i//'//m going to be a much smarter guy.
i//'//m getting a burger, then the noon meeting beckons.
after that some job applications, i reckon.
then back to the homestead after strolling around,
focusing on why i truly do love this town.
it//'//s because of the recovery and the people who care.
it//'//s because of the shine that the rain gives the air.
today is about the simple but amazing truth:
fighting doesn//'//t have to be by claw or by tooth.
today i choose to fight back against Crave,
for today i am free, i am clean, and i//'//m brave.

!!!!!

I am woefully late in reading this, but this brightened my day to the max. Perhaps you are still going strong, perhaps not.
Here I celebrate a day in the life with you. Don/'/t give up. You/'/re worth it.
