even when every fibre
tells me it isn’t so.
you’ve drifted further than my reach,
and choose to stay your hand.
still in sight, I turn away;
I hope you understand.

I need to say goodbye.
you’re less than were before;
cast adrift by bitterness,
I hope you find your shore.
I bore the burden of your pain,
hoping wounds would heal.
but there is nothing more to gain;
I don’t know what to feel.

I’m not your anchor anymore,
and you, no longer mine.
the recollections I adore,
you’ve run out all that time.
I’ve given up on asking why;
your tiny daggers bled me dry.
I whisper to the open sky
a tearful, tremulous…goodbye.

Was this based on your own experience? Sometimes you have to think about yourself. Someone told me that once. When a relationship or friendship is hurting you, you have to let it go.
Great write.

I thought this would be an angry write, "parting is not always such sweet sorrow"..but to my delight, it is a thoughtful tale of intelligence over passion, logic over longing, and a ballad of saving the self!

Rescuing ourselves requires admitting we misjudged. The only true misjudgment would be staying in a lesser relationship than you deserve for fear that your had somehow failed.
Your tale is a call to maturity. Your solemn farewell says it best: "I whisper to the open sky, a tearful, tremulous..goodbye".
We are reminded to value our lives enough to take care to spend them well. I thoroughly enjoyed your eloquent toast to the power of self esteem.
