Our greenery the heat embalms!
And our water's running out;
We're in the 5th year of a drought!

The ocean's on one side you know;
And 2 hours up you ski in snow!
1/2 hour South our tourists go;
And cross the line to Mexico!

Hollywood and Disneyland;
The L.A. Walk of Fame is grand;
Should you love to play with Legos
You must visit San Diego!

However, lest you envy us;
And jump a westbound Greyhound bus;
Let me share a couple facts;
Like high-priced fuel and triple tax!

Our hills are dry and beige my dear;
And they catch fire most every year!
Felling trees and vegetation;
Victim to precipitation!

Eventually the skies turn gray;
And mudslides carry homes away!
Early in the morning waking;
To a bit of earthly shaking!

Twisters start with clouds and storming;
Hurricanes alarm when forming;
You are safe when cellar-bound;
Til it’s time to come to ground;

But earthquakes start beneath our feet;
And leave us nowhere to retreat!
It perplexes me to say;
We choose to live here anyway!!

They say the “big one” soon is due;
And we’ll do what we have to do;
Except of course abandon ship!
While our bridges sway and dip;

We know that what is up, comes down!
The proof is lying all around!
And when it’s over we’ll get calls;
from friends in Cyuahoga Falls;
Who heard the news and want to know;
When we’re selling; where we’ll go…

I tell each one that we’re all right;
Because we hung on really tight;
And even though we lost L.A.;
Most of San Diego stayed!

All this rolling wayward motion;
Moved us closer to the ocean!
By Two Thousand Ninety-Three;
We may own beachfront property!

We’ll pay our dues though black and blue;
For million dollar ocean views!
And think you’re nuts that you remain
With twisters, floods, and hurricanes! [comments] => 4 [counter] => 192 [topic] => 7 [informant] => softerware [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => HumorPoetry )

I really like the meaning of this. One of the greatest flaws humanity has is comparing ourselves to others

I remember visiting as a teenager in 1969 and being told about (and shown) houses that slide down a hill very year.

"Timmy, this used to be a six lane road". It was two lanes. o.O

I myself have never envied that. I have for many a year now figured Arizona and/or Nevada will end up being the new S Cal!

This wonderfully written poetic verse had me smiling and gave some chuckles.

As always...thank you.

Tim

This was great as usual.
I haven't been to Ca. but this summed it up pretty good. It had a great flow too all the way through....
Amazing

James
