Have grease on their hinges
These dives
Are home to one night binges
These dives
In the east to the west
These dives
Spot of big Grif's arrest

From Murphy's law to Sky Bar
In them I'm not too far
From home

Midnight Rodeo, Gillys
And the Wild Bull in Kalamazoo
It's for them I sing
This song

They got Michelob and Amber Bach
And Poison if you want to rock
Or maybe it's Guiness, an IPA
OPEN THEIR DOORS COME IN AND PLAY
These dives

These dives
Fry fish free of charge
These dives
Sit in small groups or large
These dives
Stay away from the camera
These dives
A free round I'll hand 'ya

From Murphy's law to Sky Bar
In them I'm not too far
From home

Midnight Rodeo, Gillys
And the Wild Bull in Kalamazoo
It's for them I sing

Reminds me of my youth
Could be a song too.
Great write.

Perspective indeed. There was a time these dives were my refuge from the world I saw crumbling around me; my safe harbour from the invisible armies gnawing at my soul.

As time marched, I came to realize my visitations and embracing of these dives were the very thing keeping those armies fuelled and at their task of wearing me down.

I now view those dives as a petri dish of misery and pain, and know that the smiles and laughter of the microbes in that dish are outpouring of bravado covering the pain they are running from, all while not being aware they in the one place to ensure misery's continuity.

Your poem is a wonderful statement on a perspective of an evolving stage. Most well done and appreciated.

Invierno

I found myself pretty much singing this by the end...I could actually hear this as a catchy tune that comes on the radio as i'm going about my day. It would be that one song right after I do my chores and the baby is asleep, that I turn the radio back up just a notch and say, "this is my jam.." because it reminds me of a different time..
