We had to talk about what you did to me and it would be okay
because," You were just a boy," and all of those other excuses
Like the word boy could be synonymous with sexual harasser
or like the word was somehow a literal get out of jail free card
I guess I can't be mad because in the moment I believed her
I mean I believed you too when I saw you crying weeks after
But now I realize that you were never crying for me but for you
The boy who treated physical contact like a game of baseball
and kept running for all the bases even after I screamed foul
You cried because you thought you had found a quiet girl and
maybe someone who would let you break some of the rules
I guess that in the end you were sort of right about that part
They asked me if I wanted to press charges and I said no
because I thought that maybe this was a one-time mistake
and that you deserved another chance, a chance to change
But in the end you never did change, at least not for the better
And you know who really deserves another chance any girl
Any girl that might have to deal with you like I did in the future
So for that reason I'm sorry I didn't make you feel any guilt
Any fraction of the way that I felt so you'd never do it again
And I'm sorry that I didn't tell that teacher she was wrong
and that the word girl isn't synonymous with submissive
That I should never blame myself for or excuse his actions
Because I am not responsible for what happened to me
and I feel a strange sense of anger and pity towards the
girl who thinks she should have dressed differently
or acted differently once he has done what you did to me
and I'm sorry to the next boy who doesn't understand that
His actions make him more than " just another boy"
