Lying on a bed of withered roses
While flickers from candles cause shadows to waltz upon marble walls
With every minute that passes the darkness imposes
For the silence is deafening until the muted voices come to call

While evanescent thoughts give way to incoherent memory
The ticking of a clock resounds inside a pounding skull as it fills with apprehension
Like a ship on stormy swells fearing it will be lost at sea
And eyes are bloodshot from the strain of peering into the darkness

As serrated thorns puncture and the blood warms chilled skin
While petals have turned from living crimson to earthy hues of decay
The mind delves ever deeper trying to find solace within
Although the mind has become an inescapable tomb
