My heart isn't broken
The pain I hide, must be
Emotions denied

They firmly believe
The tough exterior I portray
Is to shield others of
My chronic dismay

They envision a man
Now skinny and thin
Tortured by life and loss
To no end

What they do not know is
I'm finally free
Of the torture, abuse, and daily demands
I'm back to being a happy simple man

One who loves life
Enjoys each and every day
Free of the mental and physical abuse
That exploited every minute of my day

I'm back to just being me
My focus is clear
My future is bright
Thank God I have seen the light.

sounds like you lost the old ball and chains...
Good for you!
Simple is calming and, don't tell anyone,
beautiful too!
Simple requires no explanation. It just is.

Peace!

The simplest things in life are the hardest to sustain! Whatever your burden, you have risen above it with grace and acceptance. You have taken your life back.
Others make assumptions because they need closure. Be patient. They will figure it out eventually.
My favorite line is "My focus is clear, my future is bright".
Says it all.

I have read this a couple of times. It has me pondering who/what it may relate to. One thing is for sure; it sounds like you said goodbye to a bad situation. That last stanza is brimming with positivity. Well done.
