Array ( [sid] => 181022 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => THE WISH [time] => 2015-04-17 22:25:14 [hometext] => Long poem, reads fast..Sleep well! [bodytext] => I give you one wish… choose now or never!
What would you do with that daunting endeavor?
Would you live forever?

Would you choose rich? Or Would you choose wise?
See through each falsehood and best laid disguise?

With only one wish, would it be just for you?
Or perhaps you would help those who needed you to?

Here’s the condition: all the world knows!
That YOU are the one upon which is bestowed;

The gift of a lifetime; so outside your door;
They gather believing that each deserves more!

With all eyes upon you, until you decide;
You’ll need a monument safe to reside!

Hoisted atop your entitlement altar;
with the world at your feet; is your wish not to falter?

( If you could exchange your troubles for mine;
There’s a fable that says you’d return in no time;
To take back your problems, once having seen;
That the grass in the distance was not really green! )

So if all the world brought their troubles to you;
To plead for your wish; and see what you’d do;

And you couldn’t decide; and you couldn’t turn back;
And the crowds were camped out at your front and your back;

With signs that said “our side” singing and chanting;
Bonfires each night, and speechmakers ranting!

Holding you hostage like some priceless gem!
High on your pedestal, asking you “When?”

Until they grow weary of your indecision;
Angry and pushing the walls of your prison!

Now they have ladders, and guards are a must!
Can you think without sleep? Who can you trust?

You try for a vote but the crowd just advances;
(Gathering weapons to better their chances).

Life at the top is lonely they say,
and slowly the alter is crumbling away!

Just when you’re sure that you’ve lived your last night;
I’ll come and we’ll recount the fires as they light!

And if I should ask you your wish to convey;
Would you be content to make me go away?

Would you be grateful to simply erase
every last moment and leave not a trace?

And would you still think me a genie? Or reason;
that maybe you deal here with Hell’s merry heathen!

Maybe the bonfire’s are Satan’s own dormat;
the crowds are the sons of temptation you smiled at!

Suppose that the price of making you whole;
was signing away your after-life soul?

Here’s the certificate; here is a pen;
Sign though your hands are trembling, AMEN!

The bonfires have turned to morning’s first light!
Open your eyes with gleeful delight!
--------------------------------------------------------
Was it a dream? I bid you farewell!
And leave you long life to think on it well!

Safe neath the sheets of your velvety bed;
The truth won't be known til the moment you're dead.

Live forever? No. Rich or wise? Wise. Help myself or others? If it's one or the other, all else, unless it's one person, then it's probably myself, because I wouldn't need much, the rest can be given away, unless it's solving of problems, but even then, I can't pick one person to help and assist. The urge to help all, and myself, the selfishisness and selflessness, both are hard to resist.

I'm not religious, but I will say this: Everyone hopes for more, and questions why God doesn't have anything better in store. Everyone asks why they can't be helped. If there was a higher being, who created everything, why on Earth, would he owe you a thing?

Good night Jaye. Good read and write. Definitely puts the extremes of our thought patterns at heads. :)

Why yes, please go now! I was thinking that before it even got that far. smiley photo cid_36B6C8ADACBB41FA8597AE4A78C7B78.gif

You done well with this. A really awesome poem...really. It left me rather perplexed and uneasy. To be required to wait until I'm dead? What did I do? I was gonna wish the genie would go now.

You definitely deserve applauds.

*applauds*

Thank you.

I unconditionally sometimes feel as though I were a small child, a human child, one who feels anguished at one moment and jubilant the next, with long and short interludes intermixed between such peaks and troughs which usually do not make much sense.
To be rich is therefore only a feeling that should be short lived before you worry you'll lose something good that you have or squander it by taking it completely for granted.
To live forever I suppose would only mean more of the same only with these feelings growing duller.
The way it is now, the child hits the wall and perhaps finds a way to transcend in spite of him or herself by growing older and doing away with childish ways for a time.
But the me in me must know my life should end and that I should do my utmost for those who follow me but not do for them what they themselves can do for themselves.
Part of the joy in me knows this I've learned from those who came before and pushed me myself, with careful
loving guidance of course - I should say because it's true.

hope that makes sense..

Peace!

Great write!

Great poem. It was very though provoking. I would probably end up wishing for more wishes because I'm that indecisive xD.

all people feel they are right and everyone else is wrong
unless they belong to the same group, if i were ever in
this situation i would protect my country from those that
hate us and never send them money ever again, i would
make me and those who cherish human and animal
lives rulers of the world for then there would be no more
cruel violence and harm, but alas, it is only a dream wish....

hugs n' love nessa
