Southern fried chicken, spuds and country gravy
home made donuts for desert.
Feeling of warmth, love over flowing.

The chit chat and the thundering laughter
feeding the birds, and canning tomatoes.
The Morning Doves coo,the big Crows chatter
cleaning up dinner dishes, pots clang and clatter
and the love spills freely, floats all around
the comfort and warmth in the little sleepy house
and life in those moments, perfect, perfect sweet love
blessed by those people, blessed by God above.

My family by blood no they weren't
but my family by life yes oh yes it was
then and now, and forever more
my granny and gramps I'll always adore
and everyone who came through that door
that southern charm,I was welcomed there
and they stood for me, and beside me
over the years and seasons that changed.

My granny with those bright blue eyes
the love we shared no Alzheimer’s or time
will erase something so true so pure
Because the spirit lives on dwells on
in that house that love built.

and I love her, and I love all of them
and unconditional still they love me.
So I breathe deep, and brush the tears from my eyes
be strong and stand tall, just like my southern granny
and take what comes, the precious days, the loving days
and what she cannot remember now......
I will remember for the both of us
and hold her and hug her and love her
in the house that love built.

My wife works in an Alzheimer’s ward. I appreciate your poem and sentimentality.

Well done,
