Array ( [sid] => 181012 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Front Porch sitting [time] => 2015-04-15 12:13:00 [hometext] => I went to visit my granny Winkle the other day, and she has Alzheimer’s,it didnt take long to realize she did not remember me,bitter sweet, but we talked about front porch sitting [bodytext] => Pulled up in front of the house
the birds all gathering for some seed.
I picked up the painted daisies I had bought her
gathered myself, inhaled a deep breath.
Not really sure of the granny I may see.
Speaking calmly to myself, "you will not cry,
not a tear will fall from your eyes,
take this visit as best you can,
make new sweet memories,if you can.

It just took a moment, and I then knew
my gray haired granny with crystal eyes so blue
with her southern drawl and southern grit
did not remember me, not one bit.
She said,"honey I'm sorry, I dont remember you,
my mind is gone these days,
I said,"oh that is ok, no worries sweet lady
you always loved me and I you
that for now will have to do.

We chatted about the weather,
and how chilly out it was that day.
She made the comment about her porch
and how she loves sitting out there
on warm days, and evenings.

"Porches are for sitting, and chatting with a cup
porches are meant for sitting with those you love
Watching the Idaho sunrise, watching the sun set
watching the birds flutter about
and the big white clouds pass by in the sky.
Smell the flowers on the summer winds
and listen to the coo of the doves.

I told her soon,very soon,
the two of us will do this together again.
Warmer weather is on the way,
hold on to the days, hold on.
I look forward to sitting out there with her
and we will learn to know each other again
a new meeting and memory made
sitting on the porch.

I didn't leave that day, without my eyes flooding with tears.
It wasn't just me but the three of us there
bitter sweet the tears bitter sweet.
Tears of joy, tears of sadness
tears of things that had happened.
Tears of years and memories lost
tears of hopes for new memories to come.
Yes I cried, and I cried some more
and as I left those tears fell on the front porch.
Now its a part of me again. [comments] => 5 [counter] => 400 [topic] => 48 [informant] => shelby [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

Boo, Alzheimer’s & senile dementia. Satan's curse!

I can soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo relate to this. I assume someone is always with her. Unfortunately we had to have my Mom put in a nursing home. It's good, at least, that she has her place.

I understand the tears. But I love how you were able to put this together. Nicely done, Michelle.

A very emotional write.
Very sad but comforting as well.
