As I look inside
remnants of flesh is what I see
They did not have a chance
they did not die peacefully

Loyal to their country
to their beliefs that they had
It put them in this situation
from what I see was pretty bad

Not wanting to see
the things I saw that particular day
It put memories in my head
visions that just won’t go away

It may not be so bad for some
everyone’s strengths can differentiate
I guess I was not as mentally strong as others
it’s still something I contemplate

The tank was demolished
the foreign soldiers were turned to goo
They never saw it coming
there was nothing they could do

As I stood there looking
the smell made me sick
My stomach curled
my throat got real thick

Casualties of war
are not only physically wounded or dead
They are also soldiers with awful visions
which years later are still running through their head

We soldiers are trained to kill
expected to hide our emotions deep inside
When the war is over
ourselves and our emotions will eventually collide

Hello Friend.

Good write.

Two lines jumped out at me.

1. Last line, "ourselves and our emotions will eventually collide" is quite good. You correctly perceive the distinction of two entities here; you and your inner self. I wish I could expand, but haven't the time.

2. "I guess I was not as mentally strong as others"
You could not be more wrong here, Friend. It takes STRENGTH, not weakness, to allow for the pain to be acknowledged, and for the atrocity of humans taking human lives. Those that revel in that atmosphere are wounded animals in need of you. IF your feelings could be personified in a salve, they could use a good rubbing in of your feelings.

It takes strength and moral fiber to be bothered (a VERY weak word for what I'm trying to convey). It is your divine spark of energy that rebels.

Best to you.

Invierno

I too was there. Not in your country but at war. What I did is irrelevant at this point in time. All I can say if I had it to do over. I would walk a road. This poem is well written easy to read yet difficult to digest. It takes me back to a place I wish I never saw. Well it's past and we are present. TFS. God bless and be strong.

Greetings
Rus

vivid images, sad, tho honestly beautifully expressed,
when i read your soul wrenching heartfelt experiences
shared through some of your poems, there's always
something i've wanted to say to help:: you always give a
mention that you do not feel strong enough to handle it-
however, your strength amazes me, it radiates, i truly
believe there are few who write with a soldier's p.o.v.
that do so in such a deeply moving way as you:)

hugs n' love nessa
