Our vibrant world is skeletal, stripped of birdsong
A void filled with remnants, scattered children of the damned
Scavengers on a rotting carcass and the charred bones of humanity

Now we exist in a paradox, undone by their doing
Ambassadors of peace, keepers of a cauldron of dust
Slaves of a foregone conclusion, carved to fruition by the hand of time
And the logic of madmen praising nuclear pacification

Checkmate, here lies the conclusion of mankind
Kings and Queens merely subjects to bureaucrats
Pawns in a game where the victor is the Reaper
And slow decaying ghosts wander silent to the grave

The future is past, the present wanes as the evening candle
Poison feeds the lungs where despair sucks the spirit
When they venture from the catacombs and declare that all is safe
I pray that if they build again the foundation isn't rot [comments] => 4 [counter] => 268 [topic] => 48 [informant] => puppy_dog_eyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

scary, that, with vividly penned mind imagery off the
charts, a perfect poem of destruction, seeing as how we
humans treat earth's animals n' children this outcome does
not surprize me, at some future point in time this will be us..........

hugs n' love nessa

Nice take on an apocalypse. Now I'm interested to see what's left, and what struggles you imagine in the new world(or lack thereof).

Jesus. A stark and chilling reality you painted with your words.
Ghastly imagery. Very effective. Well done.
