What's it like to be a wild Goose?
I'll tell you if I can.
We have so many enemies,
And one of them is man.

Life is always full of danger,
We live to be aware.
Attack comes without warning,
From water, land and air.

There are predators in the water,
Who grab us by the legs.
And others out upon the land,
Who come and steal our eggs.

When flying way up high you'd think,
That danger's far away.
But mankind with his deadly aim,
Can kill us any day.

There's one thing I can't figure out,
Although I know it's true.
That some men only live to kill,
While others never do.

If we find a place with water,
And people all around.
A few of them come up to us,
And throw food on the ground.

But the kindness of the people,
Just seems to be a lie,
For I have often seen my friends,
Shot down from out the sky.

I think most people do not know,
The hardships that we face,
In trying to raise our families,
To carry on our race.

We can not spend our winter's here,
It's way too freezing cold.
There is not any grass to eat,
For it's all dead and old.

Now flying south don't bring the joy,
That some of you may think.
Sometimes we cross a desert land,
Without a drop to drink.

Sometimes the highest mountain range,
With snow and biting cold.
The dangers that we each must face,
Keeps us from growing old.

For young and strong we wing our way,
Across the sky so blue.
With honking cry we sing our song,
Of hope we share with you.

We hope that people understand,
And take the time to care.
That we are part of nature's plan,
Or we would not be there.

So if our honking bothers you,
We're sorry as can be,
It's just our way to reconfirm,
That we're alive and free.
