to be the one to throw the final winning punch
but sometimes they get K. Oed

The winner of the match doesn't claim
that they didn't mean to hit them that hard
and nobody questions their choice to accept defeat

So why is it okay for you to keep emotionally punching me
even when I'm already obviously on the ground
and then tell me that I should suck it up, that it didn't hurt

I guess the rules are different here because
when you think about it, it wasn't really a fair fight
I didn't really have a good strategy to defend myself

Still even though the bruises are no longer visible
doesn't mean you can look me in the eyes
and act like we both don't know what happened

I like the analogy for the common metaphor of one's emotional state. I hope this isn't how you feel. There's many a number of relationships that come to such abusive terms. I think what one needs to do, is learn to roll that punch, and comfort the one who is punching. It also goes both ways, for it can't be one-sided. If you're in a relationship, the vessel will go nowhere but in circles, if only one person tries to paddle.
