It is my complexion you see
only flesh of this body where a beautiful soul does reside
Just look a little deeper
the truth will allow you, in me to confide

Your eyes only tell you
what it is that I want you to know
I control this flesh covered body
and whatever portrayal I want to show

I may be a meek person
underneath this flesh in which my soul does carry
But I am a sensitive person
this tends to make me weary

I notice you looking
trying to understand just how I feel
My complexion not the greatest
you try to figure out what is my deal

I don’t let you in
by the few words I speak
It’s one strength I have
that protects me and keeps me unique

My eyes wonder back
looking at the sight of you too
My sensitivity is heightened
by watching everything that you do

Just look a little deeper
offer kind words to feed my soul within
I will lower my barriers
and let you in

Makes me think of the habit of forming a shell to keep heartbreak and any other negativity at bay.
For many years I've done the same, but now I hope to grow beyond that, to be open to a higher extent.

Your words touched the meek nerve in me and I could quite relate to this write. You define the unique quality of one's soul versus the outside shell the world sees. Oh, if more people took the few precious moments to see, what fun the world could be. Very nice, nice write, P
