I'm reminded of my purpose
A miracle in every way,
A light in all this blackness

An unexpected present-
Joy. I thought I'd never receive,
Here I am...Now I'm a parent,
Nothing greater I'll achieve

A survivor against all odds;
Strength of character from the start
Surely a gift from the gods;
His tiny, synchronized heart.

Six weeks early, he arrived
Stubborn. On his own schedule,
I held him and felt revived
Five pounds, healthy, and beautiful

He had such a spirited fight;
I knew when he clamped my finger
I stayed awake that whole night,
My resolve wouldn't falter

Day eleven he was stronger,
And our journey could now begin
Hospital needed no longer-
Heading home, with my pint-sized twin.

Your little *pinky to the mouth* mini-you.

Haha, but in all serious, that's cool. :)
Reminds me, I saw my dad for the first time a couple months before my birthday, I believe last year, no, the year before. My dad and I met up at the bar to catch up, the first time in I want to say 16 years, which at this/that point would be two-thirds of my life. He mentioned how when I was born, I was being fussy on the warming tray, and actually rolled myself over. He was ecstatic, and cheered about it. Haha.

This is just wonderful: a tonic. I've been here, back and forth, re-reading and sucking it all in, with images of you and your pint-sized, little fighter clamping your finger. There is no greater achievement than being a parent, you are so right. The striving for more and more material wealth is a life-wasting illusion. As my old Scottish grannie used to say: 'Just remember, son, take heed of the natural things in life, they're the important things. You come into this world with nothing, and you leave the same way.'
