No ticker tape parade for an old dog learning new tricks.
Only silence greets me when I walk in the door.

Dog gone days ago, stolen in the name of petty, just to twist that blade once more.
Only hollow empties await, madness taking a backseat for this long enduring ride.
A gambler on the roll, loaded dice and a faltered soul, I sit in jaded shadows.

It is the echoes of laughter missing from my walls.
The white ring around my finger glowing in darkened times.
Reminding me to turn the page, nothing more to read in this old story.

Like a drop of water falling down deep wells, my fall was just a small ripple.
Nothing more than a splash in time.
Old vices keep a calling, my deaf ears are my only blessings as I await brighter days.

I feel this poem is quite sad, quite remorseful, regretful, or reminiscent, or all of the three(on top of sad), but as for what it is that makes the story, I can't say I know. I may be lacking some experience of my own to know. However, I will say that regardless of whether or not I know the story therein, I do in fact really like the I imagery and/or metaphor of the splashing in the well. :)

Something tells me there's more talent here than my untrained eye can pick up on.

They're coming.

Beautiful expression; some wonderful lines and use of metaphor, even if it is full of sorrow. Well done.
