Today the world revolved around me
as I sat there in my car very still
I was just having a moment
no, I was not feeling ill

Sitting in a parking lot
on the border at Travel Free
I just sat there and watched so many people
not one even noticed me

Alcohol and cigarettes
the biggest commodity everyone seemed to buy
I just sat there in my car for 20 minutes watching
over and over asking myself why

Smoking is so unhealthy
but people continue to do it still
Even when they know it can make them very sick
or eventually them it will kill

The looks on their faces
like a kid in a candy store
Some spending their last money
when there are other things they need so much more

Those few moments
I sat still and watched the world revolve
I come to realize
everyone has problems in this life to resolve

I am happy I am not a smoker
alcohol is my dearest friend no longer
As I sat there in my car watching
I realized over time, I have become much stronger

So I had a moment
as I love to watch people and how they act
I don’t place myself as any better than them
I just have stronger will power; that is a fact

I did the same the other day.
People of all ages early in the morning the liquor store was the busiest store in the center.

And most walk ins were female under 35.
Well done and I can feel your vision!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing

Congratulations on that will power! if my dad had possessed the same he might have never had to fight and lose the battle with lung cancer. sad but true.
Excellent write even if it was a bit emotional for me personally

Cigarettes are disgusting. I can't understand that addiction at all, but hey, some people can't understand my addictions either. I like the overall message in this piece, the 7th stanza being the strongest (or most relatable) to me. Not sure how I feel about the ending though. It kind of contradicts itself and is a little smug. I suppose to me, it resembles the general lack of compassion most struggling people are met with when they try to seek help.

An enjoyable read nonetheless, and something to ponder, which is a plus in itself.
