My life is like a trinket,
Or a cheap photograph.
Washed out or washed up,
I don't know anymore.
I have set aside my convictions,
To preserve the happiness of others.
I hear her voice,
But I don't know her anymore.
Like a drunken one night stand.
It happened,
It's regrettable, but it happened.
And some things you would never trade.
This isn't one of those.
We have been walking side by side,
On separate paths.
The fork in the road foretells of new experiences.
Do I stay on this death march
Or will I venture out into territories unknown.
This cannot be my crowning achievement,
My magnum opus.

You have answered your own question, Deadreckoning, " I have set aside my convictions to preserve the happiness of others." "Do I stay on this death march?"
Who among us has not thought of throwing away everything rather than untangling their mis steps!!…your greater insight seems to be--so long as I choose to measure value by the pain of it absence, how shall I recognize it in that which I already own?

Heavy sentiments. That is a struggle when one feels isolated like that. It takes two to tango, so to speak, therefore it will take commitment on both of your parts...If you choose to right the ship.

Full of emotion, and well expressed.

It's hard to understand something fully if you don't feel it. I certainly felt this write. Great stuff.
