Boyish Hans fresh from camp, with gun in hand
killed children just to keep them in his land-
a hellish vista of grimy streets and voided hope,
of posters plastered where none dare speak,
don't mention (if you want to live)
of the queues for bread, butter, graying meat-
a new razor for a wiper blade?
A furtive switch, a deal made.
Boots held with tape and tattered coats
for proles in shambles in the prisoned east,
as western cousins, brothers threw away
what four feet over made for feast.
The People's Party-
“Comrade, this is paradise!
our wall built to stymie evil western vice,
A Mercedes? Bah! We have no need, you've a ration card
and vodkas free; now, against the wall, and papers, please!”

9 November, '89, a dawn to change the world henceforth,
when intrepid souls with aught to lose
with hammer's beat changed histories course.
A chunk to fall, first one then more, as hope
in hopeless souls took root,
and throngs of living dead began the storm
as Hans threw down his gun and would not shoot.

And when at last the wall was breached,
western hands hands pulled their brothers from the East
onto soil, so very close, for decades just a dream for most;
but on that day in '89, when freedom had a chance to breathe,
when families ripped asunder at point of gun
at last together, joined as one.

What an amazing view in to a world few knew. A moment in history's time that your words have brought back to life. What an honor to those trapped behind the wall and a testament to their release to freedom. Amazing, intense, strong write, P

Well well well Mike. What a stunning write. We in the free world don't truly know what its like to live like that. This poem of yours paint a picture close to what it was. We take our freedom for granted. We don't give these nations a moments thought and that is so sad. Furthermore this write shows your compassion to man kind and that is a beautiful trait. Great write my friend. God bless

Greetings
Rus
