Music? Poetry? Dance or Art?
Life can block the gifts we’re given;
Growing up is unforgiving!

Since my childhood I have known;
A tiny voice when I’m alone;
That wants to draw, or paint, or sing;
Or point me skyward on a swing!

Boundless hope within me springs;
My child believes in everything!
From houses made of gingerbread;
To trees for castles overhead!

“Once upon a time” it starts;
Eyes on YOU to do your part!
Would you chance to join their laughter?
Leave your fond held “ever after”?

Stories of our child grow faint;
Under years of self-restraint, and
Like an itch we dare not scratch;
For fear of what our child might hatch!

Drink, for some, bestows permission;
Halloween, invites remission!
Others choose their child to be;
At costume balls for “charity!’

Those whom I admire I find;
Never left their child behind!
With dreams and hopes tucked up each sleeve;
They gave us joy and make-believe!

They seemed to share one precious tool;
No fear of being thought a fool!

To dancers, prancers, everywhere;
To Mork, and Joan, and Fred Astaire;
To Mickey Rooney, oh you kid!
Lauren Bacall and Uncle Sid;

To Jim Henson’s puppetering;
And Pete Seeger’s words endearing;
Playfully they sent their call;
Made it safe for us to fall;
Beneath the spell they deftly cast;
Let our hearts come home at last!

Here’s a toast to all of you;
Whose dignity will go askew!

When a jump rope you should chance;
Better duck beneath and prance!
Lest you shall forever be;
That work-a-holic busy bee;
Suspended in our grown-up’s act;
Afraid we’ll lose the roadmap back!

Oh, I suppose we must grow up;
But just today, I’ve had enough!
I’m going to wave at passers by;
And talk to dogs, and paint the sky.

Perhaps I’ll sit beneath a tree;
And let the ants walk over me!
Or perch out on the porch tonight;
And howl for hours with all my might!

Here’s the wish that I will make
for every candle on my cake;
May friendship interrupt your day;
And find you still have time to play!

You are talking my language! Wonderful piece of permission to embrace who we are and speaking for myself my inner child is never far away.Favourite line,"I'm going to wave to passers by and talk to dogs and paint the sky, in your great ability to connect I feel my own sense of elation and freedom.
