there are so many things upon my mind
if someone asked i would say i am fine
in truth i'm a little worried about me
things i've been seeing are less freeing

soon i will again be completely alone
only friends here animals- a phone
i find me afraid with winter to set in
i cannot explain feelings of chagrin

for the past month i lived in a city
surrounded by loved ones and laughs
always the ever present white noise
i could not write so i came home

in my world... it is quiet and peaceful
the forest holds enchantment- and me
the black night sky is filled with stars
scents of nature hold my soul and heart

as a sparrow looked through the window
fluttering, head turning, all to see inside
he also held my dog heidi's rapt attention
she wiggled in sheer delight and fascination

i watched them both as i pondered life
ease of life here verses the city's strife
wherever i roam this mountain's my home
and slowly i then began penning this poem

these beautiful mountains my muse
trees and endless skies, with wildlife
i know i will live out my days here
it saddens me i cannot live among humans

more of them have been added to my life
they are judgemental ignorant creatures
the way some of them think shocks me
common sense flown away like ravens

I hear you loud and clear, friend. People are a distraction, but no one wants to be alone. This is a reflective time of year, and that is okay. Don't let winters cold hush silence your heart. Sometimes, a dog is all we need. :)

I like how you made the little dog down at the bottom there. Cool!

Lovely, lovely poem. If humans were more like dogs the world would not be as messed up as it is. Unfortunately that's not the way it is. At least you have a peaceful quiet place to go to. Be safe, stay warm.

Notice How I stayed off the soap box about common sense and all the ***** up stuff! :)

Dogs are the most faithful of companions, they can put humans to shame. Something that Muppetman wrote, about the insular nature of humans, is ringing in my ears. Being lonely is preferable to your last verse. I'm a cynic too, but not regarding my close family and friends. This poem has warmed me to you. Hugs from Red to you.

I so enjoyed this read. I too prefer the simple quiet life with only those around me, human, dog, cat, that truly love our life. I live in a small town, but keep my world to my little box. Winter for some is a sad time, but I rather like it. Time spent on doing fun projects and watching my family grow. So inspiring your words. Great write, thank you, P

I'm glad you are home. Your writing shows your spirit freed from a protective shell you need no longer wear. I hope the silent winter embraces your serenity and you breathe poetry into the still air in gauzy white tufts! Belong to yourself lady fair, you are loved by so many unseen..but not unheard! Who among us could not cherish your gentle heart. Welcome home, and so say we all.

Hi my Friend, another fine write from your pen. I understand exactly what you feel In this write. Sometimes It Is better to be alone when you feel like this, you still have friends on this site you could contact at any time, being here you are never truly alone. This way you can still have the human companionship but at a distance. I always say the same thing my Friend, "Follow the heart." That Is my way anyway. The humans I live among are all on poetry sites. Always live your life your way and stay true to your heart. Have a good day, Catch you later. Your Friend always....MIKE. An excellent write as always.

I'm a dog lover myself. Loved this. To reference your last comment- I too collect money. And yes, my last write was a little "out there," with some personal references. I continue to be in awe of your writes. Thank you.

I can relate to this. I am going camping this year and I can't wait to sit in the shade with a pencil and pad in hand.
