A true story from long ago.
A man his true love wanted to show.
It was back in 1964.
The poor man's letter never reached the door.
Separated by hundreds of miles.
Rather he had traveled would've been worth the while.
Mailed a letter to his love far away.
It had much to ask and much to say.
He wrote this letter late at night.
Within him was this massive fight.
Between love and fright.
For a young man fears the father most.
So much so it pales you like a ghost.
Not withstanding the letters to them was mailed.
But the post office in this quest failed.
The young lady never knew.
Her love was asking her for I Do.
Neither did the question get to the father.
For him must have been a serious bother.
50 years later the letter did arrive.
If only they had internet it would have reached her on time.

You have penned a tribute to technology! Really, a commercial for doing it yourself! What an interesting turn of events, and true? "It had much to ask and much to say".. I think I shall go and tell my love yet again that he is adored! Just to be sure! Thank you for a sweet reminder in such lovely verse!

I have read of several misdirected letters over the years. I wonder what it would have been like to be this man, or the woman? Did he die a lonely man, or did he find another love? It is difficult to imagine the potential shock a letter of this magnitude could have 50 years later. Fate works in mysterious ways. I hope they both found happiness.

I liked this poem a lot. Good job here.

A poignant thought indeed, if only.
Quite ironic in another way too, the fact that so often the Internet gets a bad press for its darker side, yet in this instance it might have transformed two lives in a positive way.
I guess we will never know.
