with sleepy longing eyes;
His chin and brows are getting grey;
He’s slower now to rise.

He sees through gauzy curtains;
His hair’s in tangly knots;
His stride is not as certain;
His belly not as taut.

I feel him twitch when deep in sleep;
And more and more, he snores!
I wake beside him glad to keep;
His company once more.

We’ve been each others 13 years;
Of fun and fights and cuddles
We’ve known our share of love and tears
And troubles we’ve unmuddled.

We built our casa bella;
On trust, respect, and kisses;
He’s still my steady fella;
And I’m his favorite Mrs.

We’ve vowed until our dying days
That we will not be parted;
I, the lady fair will play;
To this lion-hearted!

Each day he will defend me;
And I shall swoon and praise.
Fiercely we’ll pretend that he;
Owns all that he surveys!

His secret’s safe; we’ll play our parts;
To love this rabble rouser!
For who could find it their heart;
To tell him he's a Schnauzer? [comments] => 5 [counter] => 218 [topic] => 23 [informant] => softerware [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FamilyPoems )

Well now. I was enjoying this beautiful write the whole way through, but you really stepped it up at the end. Terrific surprise finish! I love Schnauzers (what size?) Salt & Pepper, or black? Ooh, I'm curious ;) Dogs are one of the best creatures, if you ask me. It sounds like this guy or girl is truly loved and part of your family.
