Array ( [sid] => 178746 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Gift III [time] => 2014-07-08 23:25:23 [hometext] => I wrote this for my older sister's birthday [bodytext] => After talking to Ziggy thanksgiving night I learned something...
One significant difference between me, and Ziggy & Loyalty
It's your value to us.
For a split second Ziggy had me thinking it wasn't okay to feel that way about you
But I understand now that it is okay.
It's the truth
With everything you've done for us, why not?
You feel like I see you as the enemy
Just like I feel like you see me as a burden,
The reason for your unhappiness
But all it is,
I feel like I'm entitled to you and I'm completely okay with that
I accept feeling entitled to you,
The way my idol J. Cole is entitled to Kay Cole...his mother.
If you think about it,
I specifically, have no reason to complain about being motherless.
Whatever damage losing our mother did to me,
God pretty much stitched that up
I was raised by 3 females,
A grandmother & 2 sisters,
You being the head of the house.
You being held responsible most of the time in my life
For getting me clothes, keeping my stomach full, keeping me alive
The way you raised us...
Since our mother died poor,
It wouldn't have been much of a difference most likely
Bottom line, you did your best to do what's best
There were times where I felt you was wrong
But there's a difference between me feeling you was wrong,
And you literally being wrong.
And that's what bothers me as a person with pride.
When it comes to dealing with my problems, you've never been wrong.
And then you say if I listened to you it wouldn't have happened that way
And I'd hate you for it because I felt you was rubbing it my face,
Because I rather succeed or fail on my own assistance.
And what famous phrase sums that up?
Momma knows best.
You've been a sibling with a mother's duties since you were 18,
You've made us happy for 12 birthdays & 12 Christmases
Precisely, you've made me happy for 15 birthdays & 15 Christmases
I can't speak for Daren after 12 because he left us.
And all those birthdays & Christmases what I got you?
Not a damn thing.
And I expect this pile of words I call a " poem" to make up for it?
I'd be stupid as hell to expect that.
A sister who my nephew & I give hell to,
Ask so much from when she's hardly managing because she's already doing so much
A superhero wouldn't be a superhero without at least 1 life on their conscience
Other than that, when does Wonder Woman finally get her thanks from me?
It took me 15 Christmases & 16 birthdays to finally have a gift of my own to give you
Then again why does it take Sherry calling for me to try to get you something?
I've never shared my writing with you like this
Because I didn't want you to see what I was really feeling
Then again you always knew how I really felt didn't you?
I did a poor job of suppressing it
So no need to pridefully bite my tongue all the time when we speak
If you ever wanted to know what goes on in my mind when I write,
It's things like this
And I hope you don't mind me writing about you,
Because I feel you're a story worth telling.
A story that very well reflects the message of pushing through adversity
Pushing through adversity because others depend on them.
You know what kind of person fits in that category?
A mother.
One significant difference between me, and Ziggy & Loyalty
Is your value to us.
To them...you're simply their sister.
To me...
You're the mother God gave me a 2nd chance at a happy childhood with
They say my way with words is a gift from God...
If that's the case then this is me sharing that gift with you. I hope she thinks this is one of the best birthday presents ever! The message is phenomenal showing how you have grown as a person.

Definitely poetry in action!
