I knew that my life would never be the same.
I kept repeating it in my head again and again,
I thought the sound of it would drive me insane.

I wandered around the city without any aim,
And then on the street before me she came.
Was here a lady for whom the beast could be tame,
Would I one day be her knight and she my dame.

I sang to the tree tops my heart-felt refrain,
To the birds in the sky my words I’d proclaim.
My passions awoken once again all aflame,
My eyes held a picture of her beauty in a frame.

A thousand kisses I would send it each day,
Blown with the wind to the East far away,
She is out from my arms in this month of May,
But I hold up a glass on this day of her name.
