The sky is droppin'
The air is heavy
But my feet keep ploppin'
And the underpass is still a mile away
It don't look like I'm stayin' dry today.

But that's the way my life's bein' written
I'm holding my pen through my sinnin' n' my grinnin'
I need to take some time to smile through the pain
If I can do that I won't mind this rain.

I left St. Louis
not knowin' where I'm goin'
Just a dream I can't remember
and half a tank of gas,
The years between, whatever they mean
Have brought me here to this underpass.

I just made it- I see a few others
People on the road, my sisters and my brothers
We don't wear ties
or take escalators
We're more at home with warm beer
and gators,
and if you ask me, or any one of them
would we change it all if we could do it again?
One might say yes,
but ten would say no,
cause there ain't no freedom like livin' on the road.

I like he analogy that life is indeed a road to be traveled. Fortunately you had a destination at some point.
Those of us who don't know where we're going usually end up there faster than we think. I see the evidence in seniors working at McDonalds for minimum wage because all they have is social security which, in fact, is neither.
The road to freedom you speak to has to end at some point. But it is a wonderful journey while it
lasts.
