Were they but steel
Would afford me greater hope-
My hands, my feet
tethered by the silliness of rope-
I should be so unconcerned.

The lessons of age
Purchased so dear
With the loss of Innocent's youth-
Bigots and hate
Small beings, ill afforded to soothe-
Would I could soar beyond.

The age of dying
Is with us ever,
A clock sprung to spring at birth-
Our hopes our fears
The mulch and soil to fertilize our search-
To break these chains of air.

The heart of your message comes midway--"The lessons of age, Purchased so dear, with the loss of Innocent's youth". The subtle fact that you capatilize "Innocent's" bestows the sorrow of its sacrifice to maturity.
"the clock sprung to spring at birth" a testimony of our horrid knowledge that we are dying even as we learn to live. You compare it to a bomb inside of us--and who can deny it?
We spend our lives (literally) searching to break the chains of air! But I have never seen it so keenly described with a passion that breathes life into the words. You have made the lifelong search a living entity with an agenda we cannot change. We are prisoners in our bodies from our first breath.
