once things were all rosey; birdsong and fluff,
poetess set in motion; with all the right stuff,
no matter what happened; whatever life threw,
words always; however the wind spun and blew,

life was not perfect; so don't get me wrong,
yet time left allotted; just went rolling along,
i believed i would write; until the day i died,
always penned; things that made me cry,

i was quite the talker; indeed never quiet,
on several occaisions; 'caused a small riot,
love, loss and living; ever from the heart,
as point of view; even when torn apart,

never thought my voice would hush; alas...
yet i was silenced; the world no longer lush,
then became years; of lonely haunting tears,
a black bear visited; so add the primal fears,

where writing once felt timeless: silence.

a cherry cigar; one long deep drink of coffee,
repeat several times; 'tis a muse there you see,
some small dash of spirit; just did not dim out,
my mind, soul and heart; found bits to write about,

sigh... where to begin when away for so long?
out of my mind; now those days are just gone,
how could i have let something silence my voice?
how for four years could fear be my choice?

no longer wrapped in darkness; nor hiding away,
cautiously i peek through cardboard; to a new day,
the sun blinds my eyes; i am no longer bereft,
and here comes a feeling; i believe it is zest,

small creative flickers; travelling in my mind,
the universe has given me; blessing by design,
tho on went the world; whilst all peace had fled,
won't need an epitaph; turns out i'm not yet dead,

backflash a healthier me to the incident: time spent.

How well you describe the journey from child to woman; for what you have to say now has the substance of experience and the wisdom of time. Welcome butterfly!

Lovely work

If nothing else Dear Nessa..... Know that you are never alone through those days of silence. You were in the hearts and minds of those who love you and waited patiently for you to return. Slip on your sunglasses and peek through that cardboard. The sunshine is waiting to greet you along with all of your friends.
Keep those amazing thoughts and words of yours flowing.

My dearest nessa,
You have yet again, brought a smile to this reprobate!
A lovely compliment followed with a beautiful sharing of the heart has brightened my day.
Thank you ever so much!!! For your kind words, you open heart and for just you!
@>-->-- For you, my dear, a pitiful token to serve as my thank you substitute for the happiness you give...
Be well and satisfied in all!
Hugs,
Michael

What a wonderfully expressed take on writers block! Such an ugly, empty feeling it is to have your voice silenced. I like what you wrote about not needing an epitaph- how fitting! It does feel like you've died in a way, in a big way, even. When that magical day comes about where we pick up a pen, or sit down at the keyboard, and the words just start flowing... Ahh, yes! The clouds have parted, the birds are chirping, and we exhale. Is there a better feeling?

Love this Nessa! So happy to see you posting.

I guess I came to YPDC after you had returned;hence no idea you had been on sabbatical. this is a cool poem and does a decent job addressing writers block. I've had that happen as well. Sometimes the inner self is simply dormant in a peaceful way...poetry is soothing and cathartic, but not writing....not coming up with pen-worthy musings, is not in and of itself a negative thing. The soul does not require (any more than beach requires any one grain of sand) a vent of pen and paper to be at peace. A well that is low in water is no less a well for that.

Blessings,

Invierno

Mom,

I'm not that much into poetry anymore, you know this, but I finally decided to take a small break from knitting and novel writing to check out your poems.

I'm proud of you for writing again.

I love the title--you're always so wonderful at coming up with them (and I'm quickly realizing I am so unpracticed when it comes to commenting on poetry anymore). Especially loved the image of you sitting down with a cherry cigar since I see it so often and could imagine you smoking while you wrote this. Keep writing!

During those four years you were not writing, the World was a lesser place.

Where to begin when away for so long? Wherever you like. You are the owner of you life...and to me, the gold standard when it comes to poetry.
