Used for punishing, or praising.
Both meant a lot, and a lesson was taught.
Twice the size of mine, in inches Id say nine.
His fingers twice as wide, my hand behind his could hide.
They are dark and creased, from years of work and grease.
He'd ball them up in fists with hate, but when shook at me I wasn't afraid.
Though I might be a little scared, my feeling I did not share.
When in fists they were masculant, they must have been made for a giant.
But even with all their toughness, nothing could hide, not even roughness.
The gentless embrace or caress of my hair, the toughness couldn't subside the care.
I felt safe as the solid rock that stands, when I was touched by his hands. I love poems about fathers - even if I don't always relate to the content I can identify with the sentiment. This is a lovely tribute to your dad, I enjoyed reading it. all the best -taffi
