The Competitive Father

Contributed by trublu on Monday, 27th January 2014 @ 08:21:12 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

All he knows is competition.
Winning is everything.
The world is for ranking and rating.
More winning. More money. Where does it end?
The cycle is relentless and unfulfilling.
When does the emptiness get addressed?
All of his children made the IVY league.... except one.
Is that child less valuable? Less interesting? Less worthy of his love?
Does he loose interest in her?
Does he try to cover it up?
How does she feel in his shadow?
Is it cold?
Is she damaged?
Finishing last in his family.

Or does she learn another world?
A world of art, beauty and wonder.
A creative world where judgement is less harsh - less polarized.

Does he let her? and if so, does he learn to value her world?

Does she learn compassion for her father? - for the void that may never be compensated?

and for the events in his childhood that caused it?

Wish all parents to be had to take a test and get a license before having children. There's no operators manual. We do the best we can with what we know. It isn't always enough.
Thoughful work here trublu. Food for thought.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
