Dank moss shrinks under ragged steps
Lungs gasp to scream in endless shouts
Falling into piles of unforgotten regrets

Sitting under a moon of blackest yew
Tracing the pieces of a broken heart
Quick glance back to see if he knew
Bracing for the battle to again restart

Doors lock with each lie that's told
Windows fog with each promise broken
Yearning for the day we grow bold
Allowing the truth to be finally spoken

Hide away hurt to not harm the child
Paint over her steps with blackest tar
Keep his world gentle and ever mild
Don't let her hateful games be the star

Protective grows the arms that entwine
A heart that's pure in its childish dreams
Walls building thick in his awaking mind
A fortress against her devilish schemes

He's no long a baby to bravely shield
Arrows fly quickly from his steely glance
Moats surround the flow of his life's field
Hate no longer shatters his battle stance

A young man rises, ready to vanquish
Vision clears as his soul becomes free
Gone are false promises in a lying wish
Buried are the pictures hate gave to see

He stands tall though his armor's dented
Wondering what could have been shown
He grows stronger now anger has vented
A heart can't miss what it's never known
