Lenore Ghost the Raven Poe Graveyard Iverson Original Painting on Canvas
by Laura Milnor Iverson

Mama liked marigolds and babies’ breath;
Papa grew roses and ignored the rest
my sister was too young to be partial at all
—but I kinda see her with daisies.

They’re sleeping together, all in a row
souls in Heaven, you reap what you sow
they say bad things happen in threes
—but this time I wish it were four.

I wanna join ‘em in the sweet bye and bye
dear Jesus, when is it my time to die?

Mama says patience, my time will come
Papa stays silent, but comforted some
but I don’t find peace in being alone
—here among the headstones.

Sister, sweet sister, draws me to her breast
‘ just lay on my grave and forget all the rest
curl into dreams and breathe out the world
—we’ll play jacks and hopscotch till Judgement!’

So I think I’ll just sit here a spell
the sun is warm, and the breeze nice as well;
so many wildflowers blooming this year
—plenty for everyone.

Hi Spike,

Haunting!!
Almost suggesting that being dead is a state
to be coveted. Maybe it is - well, our spiritual
directors tell us so.

Think I'll hang fire for a bit!

Nice one, Spikers.

Hi spike, it's been awhile :)

It seems I chose a good night to drop in. This is a well thought out write and I very much enjoyed reading it.

...curl into dreams and breathe out the world... Oh, I like that. It sounds quite fantastic actually!

I think I'll just sit here a spell too.

Interesting to see death as something not to be feared but to be welcomed.
Powerful without slipping into the morbidity that often comes with the subject matter.
Nice write
Really enjoyed this one.
