I sat on the end of a table of five
Opposite a gentle woman shrouded in grief.
Weakened and yet stoic, beneath the shyness
A strength, battered by life but a survivor,
Without shouting about it.
Still reaching out to a group, but staying with her
First shared thoughts of having felt no support.
We were separate to the three.
One readied to offload her whole world to the next
Ready ears. One positioned and wanting all that
The centre of the table offered and yet every so often
Apologising in whispers to the two on the end.
And opposite, the authoritative support sat engaged
With the central three until playful me asked her,
What do you do for a living?
A support officer.
I played with some questions as her reluctance guided
Her back into her designated role then we left.
We, the two on the end.
From a table that was empty
From the start.

Support.

I sat on the end of a table of five

Woooosh...

That's the sound of this poem going over my head. :)

But if I would venture a guess, it's the two people at the end of the table connecting (and caring) while the others are distant and in to whatever it is they're doing while not really caring about the two on the end...the other three empty & without feeling or compassion.

I get some other issues with it but I think it's just where my head may be at. I seem to relate to it as well as the other poem you posted previous to this one about surgeons.

Such a clever write, you always manage to hold the attention right through everything you write.
I'm positive you could even make a wine list sound exciting!!!
Well done again.

Steve

I agree with Steve. You could indeed make a wine list sound exciting.
