I took in the morning as
my partner was rousing, and
drew her close to me
as she replied in synchrony;
and we kissed and laughed over
coffee as we said our work goodbyes,
happy in our union of
truth and all its lies;
and shouldered all the tasks
that fill the moments of our days
to endure each other’s absence
in a thousand, wordless ways,
until the blessed reconnection
of hearts in lovers’ pulse…

everyone’s connected, to everybody else

and the child in the Philippines
scrounging plastic on a tip,
has the hopes and fears of everyone
silent on her lips;
while a young boy in Africa
takes the steps to being a man,
and he stumbles and he fumbles
but we do the best we can

and the beaten wife in Paris
concealing bruises on her face,
is witness to the truth that
every contact leaves a trace…

every dream has a beginning,
each nightmare has its end
and we are often close to breaking,
but more than likely bend
while the lives that have existed
or likely to come forth,
hold the seeds of their demise
in the fields of their birth

we sense a vague connection,
frustratingly absurd
the path is intuition, but
we just can’t find the words;
while each atom of our bodies
holds a universe of space,
like the earth holds the moon
in a lingering embrace

like the butterfly held silent
while the hungry sparrow sings,
the portent of disaster
in the beating of its wings;
and Gaia shifts and rumbles
as we tremble in her pulse…

everything’s connected, connected to all else.
