Array ( [sid] => 175391 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Because it's there! [time] => 2013-03-11 08:13:03 [hometext] => My Grandson, 2yrs 5mths old - he's at that age. Borrowed the poem's title from the tragic George Mallory's (1924) answer to the question ...... ''Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?'' [bodytext] =>
My Grandson has discovered mountaineering,
potentially Mount Everest inclined.
The trick, I guess, is be his safety buffer,
or very swiftly read what's on his mind.

Atop the table - gleeful and triumphant,
and planning his descent towards the floor.
He jumps - and just in time I break his freefall;
my worry lines increasing by the score.

Included in the wee man's risk assessment
a six-foot fence, a weeping willow tree.
It's height - aye that's the lure, and now I'm certain
that he'll scale his bedroom walls before he's three.

My prayers are still unanswered but I'm hopeful
that he'll undertake the ways of compromise.
More sweets for him - for me, more relaxation
if he climbs no more until he's Grandad's size.

Great to hear that,'wee man,' continues to give his Grandad a run for his money!I get the feeling that even though Grandad's steps may be seen to be following behind now, maybe grandson is following in those steps too!

A well written reminder of years of having to buffer the falls and tumbles of four boys. I enjoyed your piece and smile with your wish to undertake the ways of compromise. Well done
