my eyes squint as I try to look
The light got brighter
with every closer step I took

Seemingly it got brighter
brighter than the sun
The warmth overwhelming
I felt I needed to run

At a distant place
still seeing the light
Where I am now
is cold and dark as night

Wishing I had not run away
wanting to feel the warmth, that light gave to me
It was obviously something very special
I did not stay long enough to see

Such a divine feeling
I should have stayed longer to see what it was
Not only did it give me warmth
it gave me a wonderful buzz

Feeling so high
from what seemed natural and welcoming to me
Where I am now, is so dark and cold
it’s time to go back and see

Looking again at the light
retracing my tracks from before
As I got even closer to the light
I saw Jesus standing by a door

My son, you’re not ready
those words he spoke to me
Go back to where you were
and bring some of this precious light I plea

I took him for his word
and walked back into the night
Things are not as dark as before
because now I carry Gods light
