Counting and recounting the times before
When I was young and wondered what it held
I imagined wolves no doubt
Bears, and that man down the street
That yelled at us for riding bikes too close to his garden
I imagined freight trains carrying liquid steel
Creating mist as the heat met the cold air
Screeching brakes creating a dissonant lullaby
With thunder from the engines rumbling on for miles

But what I loved the most was the silence
Late, late into the night
Silence

I could finally let caged thoughts run free
There was no need for questions, answers, opinions, estimates
What was, simply was
I built empires of thought
Roads and bridges to nowhere
But still would find something along the way

As time wore on and I grew older
I would get lost further into the silence
Something made the darkness unkind
The silence grew deafening
I began destroying with the same tools
I once used to create

Something was lost in the dark
It had betrayed me
I had betrayed myself
And I fought hard to get myself back
I danced with devils and raced alongside ghosts of memories
Losing, winning, digging holes looking for the sky
Trying to find my Maker if I had one at all
Just to see if a warranty was still intact

So there I stood at the edge of the dark
Realizing it was just one large shadow passing through
Like the thunder from the engines rumbling on for miles
Those roads and bridges to nowhere
Finally led me home [comments] => 5 [counter] => 271 [topic] => 60 [informant] => IamM [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => insomniac )
