Ériu's Daughter
From the threads of tattered dreams I rise
And walk the road lifting the red hem of my mothers dress.
A handmedown, worn, neglected
The pattern of my dress remains strong,
Strong as when it was first sewn by my grandmother.
A dignified woman, ancient, her word immutable
Tonight I will keep a vigil by my grandfathers sick bed
But my children and grandchildren will rise the morning mist,
tending the fields, our stock and our visitors.

I like it. I think the but on the second line of the third sentence would be better absent. Regardless, keep writing. |
