Array ( [sid] => 172628 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Learning to Detach [time] => 2012-05-22 23:05:31 [hometext] => I wrote this after being told by many people to detach from certain things in my life. Its true I think, we all need to detach at some point, but its also like loosing a part of yourself through the process of detaching. [bodytext] => Learning to Detach
Not feel as I feel
Not connect as I connect
Life not as real
Not as many emotions to collect
Hard, strong, careless, neglect
Ignore it, be harsh, frown my brow
As I witness all the mules & cows
In suits, displaying no emotions,
Feelings, passions or love.

Are we slaves to detachment
Is it easier to just not care?
We crowd our minds with entertainment
& ignore compassion & what’s fair.

Do we continue on this path of self detachment?
Become empty walking carcasses, shells on this earth?

Without my feelings, emotions & passions
I’ve walked into a blade of mystical steel
But not blood seeps thru to show I was here, to show I was real.
& if no one is to ever know I was here, not to see me, hear me or feel my creation of being
Then why do I keep on living?
Why do I, keep on being? Keep on breathing?

My soul it cries,
Its suffocating inside
Yet no one care, no one cares?
And they don’t even hide, that they don’t care, they just continue to walk by.

They tell me to detach
To burn away all emotions & memories
To stop being me
To not feel as I feel
To not connect as I connect.

But this life is real
& my spirit does connect
No mystical blade here, can sever the union between me, myself & I
No amount of forgetting can kill my soul or spirits will to try.

So I will keep praying
That one day I will, find that someone who also can feel
Who can also connect,
Who isn’t detached,
Who isn’t willing to forget.

Your words contain the emotion that floods our world today. It's easier to shut down than to deal. Know that world. Your poem touched me. Great write. Thank you for sharing. P

Words that convey an Highly Sensitive Person's soul. (Google Dr Elaine Aron who first described the personality trait ). Do not detach, be yourself. There are many of us out in the world. You should always express your thoughts and feelings and if it is through words then welcome the writer's fraternity.

Take care

I don't know what kind of detachment these people were talking about but I don't believe you have to lose any part of you to detach. I don't believe detaching is about losing something. Detachment gives one room to breath a little. Especially in people , like me , who worry to much about things. I've begun to realize that nothing last forever be it good or bad and constantly fighting every perceived ill has worn me thin. So I've learned to become much healthier by being a part time fighter. I still believe and fight for certain things but now and again I shut it all off. This detachment gives me time to rest and strength to continue fighting tomorrow. truly , doug

To detach is a distraction of who we are, whether physical, mental, emotional or material. Throughout life we gather parts of ourselves, we store them, use them and become a representation of our selfmade product.
However simple those around us convey their flow of thougth which comes from the outside looking on the outside. The immortal bond between our heart and mind can't easily be dimished.
I was drawn into the sentiment of self and separation.
