Of such simple resolution
But I ponder and ponder
Of an alternate conclusion

Is the decision truly so dark?
So gray? So dreadful?
Can we not see the good?
Can we not at all be hopeful?

I know my mask is white.
My words are gold.
But my face is black.
My thoughts are cold.

Let us pretend that the truth
Is clear and rotting before us.
Can I make my choice now?
Can you now hear the bleak chorus?

I feel the full effect.
Vines are wrapping around my finger thickly.
Fate is choking, it's choking me.
I'm suffocating quickly.

You laugh? You mock?
Thoughts taken for granted.
If I resolve things this way
Perhaps my warnings will be chanted.

Cliché after cliché
My attempts are so petty.
I don't think I can do this.
I know I'm not ready.

Is there no other way?
To be freed? To fly?
To end every act?
To end every lie?

I'm a master in my art.
A professional fake.
I believe that no others
Can read the lies that I make

The Picasso of scandal.
The Da Vinci of masks.
But even they did not make
Their art a daily task

Will I be written in history?
Will my story be told?
Impossible. I am too lowly
And my lies have been too exquisitely told.

Delivery and acceptance.
You are all so simple.
I place one finger in water
You are the soul of each ripple.

Have I made my choice?
With just one page's worth of ink?
A ship manned by so many
But only I will sink.

Dilemma, Enigma
Of such simple resolution
But I ponder and ponder
Of an alternate conclusion.

I love this poem. Continuous ponderings are much the poet's life! Love the premise and I'd bet you could do so much better with it. I am not saying that to be offensive or anger you. You have achieved caliber of greatness. Just personally, if you're going to make a rhyming scheme flow so well, then either actually rhyme or don't rhyme at all (told with told). But it's your poetry, so just tell me to shut up. And don't misunderstand, I'd say on a scale of 1-100, this would have got a 98.9 from me. smiley

Thank you,

Tim
