Nothing is safe when
It is involved.
Nothing good comes from it.
The only thing it causes
Is tormenting pain.
The pain is slow, horrific.
It eats away at you, slowly,
From the inside out.

Is this poem just about life in general. When you said the already dead do you mean like hell or some zombie like infection. I've seen people before who were terminally ill and yet they did not seem too disturbed by it. Infact some were seemingly quite alright with it. That leads me to believe that if someone can achieve and maintain a certain state of mind then even the agony of disease and impending demise cannot perturb them therefore I could claim that they are really suffering no agony at all.
