I am less than the surrounding air
I contribute no ideal to anything I do
I have no memories or past to share

Life endless treading a lonesome path
I give no heart to the conscious life
I only cause hate and horrid wrath
I bring darkness, emptiness, strife

This I've been told since my time began
Drummed daily into my head and heart
Shown time upon time little worth I am
Never given a chance from the start

Too many children and young adults live
With these same feelings and physical abuse
They're hurt every second, never any give
They've no where to go, so what's the use

Living with fear in their abusive homes
Nothing they do seems to stop the pain
Spending their days feeling unloved, all alone
Despair, hopelessness around them rains

Time to stand up for these kids, we adults
They need us to become their new friends
Need to let them know it's not their fault
Time for emotional, physical abuse to end

Give them moments of love, genuine kindness
Wrap them within our arms, build a safety net
Create a world of light, shut out the darkness
Give them hope for a world we won't regret

Help them survive this madness, despair
Stop the cycle of hate within their home
Side by side, give them dreams to share
Let us show them they are never alone

It's a bit downbeat. Try and be more positive. Write about a cat who gets the cream or an earlybird who gets the worm. Just don't write it from the worms point of view and then it will be ok!

I'm commenting mainly to counter the last. I think you should certainly write to raise awareness of the things that are wrong with the world. There's no point glossing over things that are wrong. You should share your views on how things should be made right. That's part of art's function.

Mickey.
