Soldiers of Gray and Blue standing heel by heel.

Silence calming. Waiting for what's to happen.

The cool dawn breeze. touching their knees. as they stand waiting

Heel by Heel. The soldiers wait, the order from their Superior coming too late.

Suddenly the bugle rang, and the General sang.

"You'll Most likely die for honor and glory. Slain for your country. On this day."

So the men charged. No longer standing heel by heel, The silence finally breaking.

The feet thunder across the field. No man will soon yield.

Their Bayonets quickly lock. Their Muskets now cocked.

The Whites of said enemy now in sight. The crack of the first shot. Rings out into day.

Many strong men fall. Brothers Fathers and Sons. Families fighting for Glory.

Some say it's for independence, For freedom. For the right to do what one wants.

The field mixed with three colors that day. Gray, Blue and Red.

At the end of the fighting Sunny Dawn to Stary Night.

The soldiers who once stood heel by heel. Now lie Shoulder by shoulder.

Silence joins our hill again. The silent Hill of Manassas. Now the Graveyard of Bullrun.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
