Blue as the eyes of a newborn baby

Reveling as she takes her first breath of life.

Grey as the sidewalk leading to your house

The one you never noticed the small flowers that grew from it in spring.

Indigo as the shirt you wore

On the first date of the boy who had always been crazy about you.

And black as your room at night

Invisible energy buzzing through the air and making everything come alive.

Sometimes when I'm alone

I'll stare at the sky.

Watching clouds creep along like baby turtles crawling to the ocean.

The sun warms the grass and casts rays of light, making everything look golden.

The pale moonlight illuminates the words on the pages of your book,

The one you've read a thousand times but still understand something different everytime you soak in the words.

I pity those who've never truly seen the sky

A false sense of knowledge is the only thing that keeps them from breaking away from reality.

Everyone needs to take time out of their day

To look at the sky

Think of the small things in life

Like the rising and falling of the chest of that newborn baby

Like the flowers growing from that sidewalk

Like the shirt you wore on that date

Like the life buzzing through your room when you close your eyes.

Like the love and wisdom only found through years of searching.

Does anyone look at the sky anymore?

I certainly hope so.
