The lords and ladies were present,
In the ballroom of the king.
The nightingale stepped forward,
There’s a hush as she begins to sing.

My soul was captured, a prisoner,
Before she finished the very first line.
A beautiful, priceless, songbird.
I knew I had to make her mine.

I’d ride to Sherwood Forest,
To the Sheriff of Nottingham.
I’d plead for him to release me,
For I was an indentured man.

He gave no thought to my pleadings.
He instead said “bring her to me!”
I refused to follow his order.
His sword drawn now he pointed at me.

I started to flee remembering my love
For the nightingale who had my heart.
If I had to die fighting for her,
Then I knew it was time I should start.

In the back of my mind she was singing,
A melody peaceful and sweet.
It gave courage and strength to my spirit.
It gave swiftness to my shaking feet.

The Sheriff was no match for the sweet love.
That beckons and pulls me to act.
I knew had I even been injured,
To her I ‘d be going right back.

The Sheriff no longer a threat there.
I returned falling down at her feet.
I pleaded that she would consider,
From now on singing only for me.

We rode off toward the beautiful sunset.
The nightingale now sings for me.
The most beautiful, lovely, precious creature.
Together we are harmony!
