Four walls to bind us
Together only in our judgments
of ourselves
of each other
not able to be
imperfect
the highest form of beauty
judge not yourself against
the value of your peers
for only you own your worth
your eyes stare reflected
back at you and
you claim "it wasn't me"
if we cannot own our worth
or our responsibility
then what are we
but shells
filled with missed opportunity
you would think
with all of the ladders
our feet climbing over
the faces of those
we strive to be better than
that one day we
might climb out
of these boxes
we hold ourselves
captive in
we spend our lives
looking up the rungs
too concerned with
finding a way over
these walls
that we fail to see
the door at the bottom
humble, unobtrusive
for the excellence that
we strive to achieve
is not over
the judgments and vulnerability
but through them

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
